Bookkeeper in Salisbury, MA

A beach town earns in summer. Bookkeeping that keeps Salisbury books steady all year.

Yes, there is a bookkeeper for a Salisbury business, including one that only opens for the summer. That bookkeeper is Angel Wallace, me, an Advanced ProAdvisor for QuickBooks who works alone and online from Atkinson, New Hampshire. I record every sale and payout, and a free consult comes first.

Salisbury has been a summer place since Beach Road was laid across the Great Marsh in 1866 and opened up five miles of shoreline. Hotels, arcades and amusement rides followed, a hand-carved carousel called The Flying Horses arrived in 1914, and famous bandleaders and singers once played the beach. The roller coasters are gone, but the Salisbury Beach Boardwalk still brings people to its shops, cafes and arcades. A beach economy packs much of its income into a few warm months. For a small Salisbury business that means card payouts pouring in while there is no time to record them, and a quiet winter spent guessing. I keep the records moving the whole time.

The first settlement here was called Colchester and was laid out as a tight semicircle, and its old roads survive as the triangle of Elm Street, School Street and Bridge Road. The town has three villages: Salisbury Beach, Browns Point and Salisbury Plains up in the northwestern corner. Interstate 95 and Interstate 495 come together in town, Route 110 ends at Route 1, and Route 1A turns north along the beach toward New Hampshire. Amesbury is to the west, and Newburyport is across the Merrimack. Atkinson sits about 16 and a half miles inland to the west, and I work online from there.

Where I work

How local and remote work runs

During the season a Salisbury owner has no spare hour, so the setup is built to need none. Your Square or card payouts flow into QuickBooks Online, I match them to the bank from my desk, and a report follows each month. Anything that needs talking over can happen on a phone or video call.

Salisbury questions

Bookkeeping questions from Salisbury

Does a Salisbury, MA business need a Massachusetts bookkeeper, or can you do it from New Hampshire?

I can do it from New Hampshire. Recording sales, matching payouts and reconciling accounts work identically in both states, and Salisbury touches the New Hampshire line anyway. Filing is the part tied to Massachusetts, so that goes to your Massachusetts tax preparer, with books from me that are ready for them.

My Salisbury business is just me. Is paying for a bookkeeper worth it?

Honestly, sometimes it is not. A one-person Salisbury business with a short list of regulars and a single account can usually manage with nothing more than a custom Google Sheet, and that asks much less of you than monthly service. Hire helpers or pile on payment apps, though, and monthly bookkeeping is what takes over.

I take cards through Square at the beach. Should I expect a 1099-K?

It depends on the season you have. For 2026 a processor such as Square issues a 1099-K only when your activity for the year clears the federal lines, and your tax preparer knows where those are set. A boardwalk sale is income with or without the form, so every one goes into the books, ready to be checked against Square's totals.

All summer I paid for everything from one account. Is that fixable?

Yes, and a short busy season is exactly when it happens. A cleanup takes the account one transaction at a time: this one was the business, that one was the household. Money the business owes back to you, or you to it, gets written down properly, and the accounts are reconciled. A separate business account then keeps next summer clean.
