All 13 questions

How much does a bookkeeper cost?

It depends on how many transactions and accounts you have and whether your books are current. For context, low-volume monthly plans cost $150 to $399 a month: the published range from national online providers (Oct 2026). Those are other providers' prices, not mine. I quote after a free look at your statements, so the number fits your actual business.

Is the consult really free?

Yes. I don't charge for consultations. I like talking to people, and a conversation is the easiest way to see whether I'm the right fit for your business. You leave with a plain answer about what your books need, whether or not you hire me.

Do I need QuickBooks Online to work with you?

No. Most of my monthly clients use QuickBooks Online, and I can set it up for you. If your business is very small or just starting, a custom Google Sheet may fit better. Not every business is ready for accounting software, and that's okay.

Do you do taxes?

I'm a bookkeeper, not a tax preparer. I work alongside your CPA. I keep your books reconciled and current all year, so the person who files your return gets clean numbers and a quicker job.

Are you a CPA?

No. I'm a bookkeeper and an Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor, certified in QuickBooks Online (Level 2). I keep the books, reconcile the accounts and explain the reports. Your CPA or tax preparer handles tax returns and tax advice, and I make their part easier.

My books are months behind. Can you still help?

Yes. Catching up is one of the most common reasons owners call me. I start from your bank and card statements, sort and match every transaction, reconcile each account, then hand you a clean file and a report. From there you can keep going yourself or move to monthly bookkeeping.

How do you handle Venmo, Square and Rover payouts?

I match each payout to the payments inside it and record the fees separately, so your income shows the full amount clients paid and your fees show as an expense. That is usually the tangle that makes the bank balance and QuickBooks disagree.

What reports will I get each month?

A profit and loss statement and a balance sheet, plus a short note in plain words about what changed and what to watch. If you want to understand the reports better, I walk you through them until they make sense to you.

Do you work with businesses outside Atkinson?

Yes. I'm based in Atkinson, NH and work with businesses in the 50 towns within about 20 miles of it: Plaistow, Hampstead, Salem and Derry close by, out to Exeter, Manchester and Nashua, and across the state line to Haverhill, Andover and Lowell, MA. Most bookkeeping happens online through shared access, so the work runs the same whether you are next door or a few towns over.

Do I need to meet you in person?

No. Consults happen by phone or video, and the monthly work runs online through QuickBooks Online and shared statements. If you would rather talk something through face to face, ask when you book and I'll tell you what I can do.

Is my financial information safe with you?

You invite me into QuickBooks Online as your accountant user, so you never hand over your own password, and you can remove my access whenever you choose. You decide what I can see.

Can I keep doing some of my books myself?

Yes. Plenty of owners like doing their own entries. QuickBooks Online Support is built for that: I set up workflows and shortcuts that fit how you work, answer your questions and check the file, so you stay in control with less time spent.

What do I need to get started?

Your recent bank and card statements, the payment apps you use and, if you have one, access to your QuickBooks Online file. That's enough for me to see where things stand and tell you what it would take to get them current.

Still wondering?

Call or write with your question. I'll answer it in plain words, and there is no charge for asking.
