Bookkeeper in North Reading, MA

Once a town of backyard shoe shops. Bookkeeping for North Reading's home-based and one-person businesses.

Yes, a North Reading business can use a bookkeeper from across the state line. I am Angel Wallace, and I run Business Untangled by myself in Atkinson, New Hampshire. My certification is Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor, all of the work happens online, and a North Reading owner starts with a free consult.

Your bookkeeper in North Reading

North Reading began in 1651, when the town of Reading was granted land north of the Ipswich River, and it became its own town in 1853. By 1850, small sheds for making shoes were attached to almost every house here. In the early 1900s the main products were milk, apples and fruit. I like that history, because the business beside the house never really went away. It is a home office now, or a van in the driveway, or a cleaning business run from a phone. That is the kind of North Reading owner I set up my practice to help, in QuickBooks Online or in a plain Google Sheet when that suits the size of the work.

The first farmsteads were large grants along the Ipswich River, and six families had settled before 1680. There was a sawmill on Lob's Pond by 1694, and a century later grist and saw mills stood at the village center. Families today know the town by its schools, from the L. D. Batchelder School up to North Reading High School. Its neighbors are Andover, North Andover, Middleton, Lynnfield, Reading and Wilmington. Atkinson is between 18 and 19 miles north, over the New Hampshire line, which is why everything I do for a North Reading owner is handled online.

Where I work

How local and remote work runs

Nobody in North Reading needs to mail me anything. You give me accountant access to QuickBooks Online, or a Google Sheet gets built that belongs to you, and the statements are shared online. Consults and questions happen by phone or video. The file is open to you and me alike, so you can always see what I see.

North Reading questions

Bookkeeping questions from North Reading

My business is in North Reading. Is a New Hampshire bookkeeper a sensible choice?

Yes. Sorting transactions, reconciling accounts and writing reports is identical work on either side of the line. What changes is the return, and filing in Massachusetts stays with your Massachusetts tax preparer. I keep North Reading books from Atkinson and hand that preparer clean, organized records.

Can a North Reading business get reports from you without the monthly bookkeeping?

Sometimes, yes. A report can only be as honest as the reconciling behind it. Where a North Reading owner already has current books, reporting works as a service by itself. Where the books have slipped, the order is cleanup first and reports second, because a report built on a stale file misleads the person reading it.

Does the first conversation cost a North Reading owner anything?

Nothing at all. Consults are free with me, partly because I like talking to people and partly because a single chat shows fastest whether you and I are a fit. A North Reading owner who never hires me still walks off with a plain answer about what the books need.

Is QuickBooks Online required, or can a small North Reading business use something simpler?

It is not required. Most monthly bookkeeping I do happens inside QuickBooks Online, and setting it up is part of the job. For a North Reading business that is tiny or only just open, a custom Google Sheet can be the better fit. Some businesses are not ready for accounting software, which is perfectly fine.
