Your bookkeeper in Candia

Candia used to be called Charmingfare, probably for the bridle paths that wound through its pleasant scenery, and the old name has stayed on at a local farm. The town took its present name as a compliment to Governor Benning Wentworth. It is a town of three villages, and the businesses it has been known for are home-grown ones: a farm, a vineyard, a bed and breakfast, a golf course. Owners like that wear every hat, and the bookkeeping hat fits worst. I take that one. I sort and reconcile what came in and went out, and I tell you in plain words what the month looked like.

Route 27 and Route 43 cross at Candia Four Corners, near the middle of town, and Route 101 runs through the southeastern part with a single interchange. East Candia sits toward the Raymond line. The old railroad bed is part of the Rockingham Recreational Trail now, and Hall Mountain, the highest point in town, stands inside Bear Brook State Park. Children attend the Henry W. Moore School, then go on to Pinkerton Academy in Derry. The Fitts Museum keeps the town's history. Atkinson is about 17 miles to the southeast, in the same county.

Where I work

How local and remote work runs

Nobody in Candia has to drive anywhere for this. The owner shares bank statements and either invites me into QuickBooks Online or works with me in a Google Sheet, and I do my part from Atkinson. The talking happens by phone or video.

Candia questions

Bookkeeping questions from Candia

Is Candia, NH too far out for you to keep a business's books?

Not at all. Rockingham County holds both Candia and Atkinson, and since I keep books online, a business near the Four Corners gets the same attention as one in my own town. You deal with one person from the first call onward, because I run Business Untangled by myself.

Will you also do the tax return for my Candia business?

No, and I would rather be clear about it up front. I am a bookkeeper. The return itself belongs to a tax preparer or CPA of your choosing, and I work alongside that person. What they get from me is a set of reconciled books, and with those in hand their part usually goes faster.

Could my Candia business buy reporting alone, with no monthly bookkeeping attached?

It could, under one condition. Reports are drawn from the books, so the books have to be reconciled and current before a report on a Candia farm or trade is worth reading. Current books: reporting stands alone. Books that have slipped: a cleanup goes first, or the report would paint a picture that is not real.

A free consult sounds too easy. What does a Candia owner owe you afterward?

Nothing at all. Consultations cost nothing with me. I happen to like talking with people, and a single call tells both sides more about fit than any form could. However it ends, a Candia owner hangs up knowing in plain terms what those books are asking for, hired me or not.
