Bookkeeper in Topsfield, MA
Calm, online bookkeeping for small businesses in the home of the Topsfield Fair.
Yes, a Topsfield business can bring its books to me, tidy or not. I am a solo bookkeeper, Angel Wallace by name, with Advanced ProAdvisor certification in QuickBooks and a desk in Atkinson, New Hampshire. A free consult comes before any quote or any work.

Every fall the Topsfield Fair takes over the grounds along Boston Street for eleven days of livestock, rides, crafts and the All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. It began in 1818 as a cattle show and is one of the oldest fairs of its type in the country. For three centuries Topsfield was a small farm town, and although it is a bedroom community now, the fair keeps the growing, making and selling in view. A crafter, a grower or a one-person service business here can have a few very full weeks and then a long quiet stretch. The records from the full weeks are the ones that go missing. I put them back in order.
Route 1, which locals call the Newburyport Turnpike or Old Boston Road, nearly cuts the town in half, and Route 97 crosses it the other way. The Parson Capen House still stands, and a white-steepled church looks over Topsfield Common. The Ipswich River passes beside the fairgrounds, and parts of Bradley Palmer State Park and the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary lie within the town. June brings the Strawberry Festival. Younger children attend the Steward School and Proctor Elementary before Masconomet. Atkinson, my home base, lies about 18 miles to the northwest, over the New Hampshire line.

How local and remote work runs
For a Topsfield owner the first step is a conversation, not a pile of paperwork. Then comes access, either mine to your QuickBooks Online file or yours to a Google Sheet built for the business. I work through it from Atkinson, and when a decision comes up, a phone or video call settles it.

Topsfield questions
Bookkeeping questions from Topsfield
Would you keep books for a Topsfield, MA business from New Hampshire?
Yes, I would. The bookkeeping itself has no state in it: a sale at a Topsfield stand is categorized, reconciled and reported exactly as it would be across the line. I do that online from Atkinson. Your Massachusetts tax filing is a matter for your Massachusetts tax preparer, and the books I keep are organized with that hand-off in mind.
How much do I need to prepare before the free consult?
Very little, and nothing formal. A Topsfield owner might think through three things: the bank accounts and cards behind the business, the apps customers use to pay, and roughly when the books were last up to date. Have a QuickBooks Online file? Keep the login within reach, so I can look afterward if you give the word.
My Topsfield books are a mess and I am embarrassed. Will that be a problem?
No. Mess is the normal condition of the files I open, far more common than order, so a tangled Topsfield ledger is nothing new. Today's state of the books is simply the starting line, and from there I work them into sense. My first pass asks one thing only: what has to be fixed. Blame for the tangle never comes into it.
Why can't I find your rates anywhere before booking?
Because one number cannot be fair to everybody. Set it for a busy service company and a Topsfield farm stand pays too much; set it for the farm stand and the company pays too little. So the order is this: a free consult, then a free look through your statements, then a quote written for your books alone.
