Bookkeeper in Georgetown, MA

Bookkeeping for Georgetown's home offices and work trucks, kept online from Atkinson, New Hampshire.

Yes. A Georgetown business can hand its books to a bookkeeper across the New Hampshire line. My name is Angel Wallace, and I work alone from Atkinson as an Advanced QuickBooks ProAdvisor. Everything happens online, and it begins with a free consult where you tell me what has piled up.

Georgetown was New Rowley before it was Georgetown. Farmers from Rowley settled the meadows along Penn Brook, the village grew small mills and eventually a shoe company, and in 1838 it became a town with a new name. Small industry carried on for a while, and today Georgetown is mostly residential. In a town like that, the businesses are tucked into the houses: a contractor with a truck in the driveway, a cleaner with a full week, someone consulting from a spare room. The bookkeeping happens at a kitchen table, late, after the real work. I can take that part over, or help you get it under control, whether that means QuickBooks Online or a plain Google Sheet.

Routes 133 and 97 share a short stretch near the center, and Interstate 95 has its one Georgetown exit at Route 133. Rock Pond and Pentucket Pond are the two big ponds, with the Georgetown-Rowley State Forest to the south and the Crane Pond Wildlife Management Area to the north. The Peabody Library carries the name of George Peabody, who paid for it in honor of his mother, and the Old Nancy cannon can be seen at the Town Hall. Groveland, Newbury, Rowley and Boxford surround the town. Atkinson is about 12 miles to the northwest, and since I work online the miles never come into it.

Where I work

How local and remote work runs

Georgetown has no mass transit, so every errand here is a drive. Your bookkeeping does not have to be one more. You connect your bank and card accounts to QuickBooks Online once, or I build you a Google Sheet, and I work in that shared file from my desk. Questions go by phone or on video.

Georgetown questions

Bookkeeping questions from Georgetown

Can a New Hampshire bookkeeper keep the books for a Georgetown, Massachusetts business?

Yes. Sorting transactions, reconciling accounts and building reports is the same job whichever side of the state line the business sits on. I can do that part for a Georgetown business from Atkinson. The Massachusetts return itself stays with your own tax preparer, who gets tidy, reconciled records from me to work with.

What should a Georgetown owner bring to the first call?

No folder and no homework. Three things help: a list of the bank and credit card accounts the business runs through, the apps your customers pay you with, and an honest guess at how many months have gone unrecorded. If a QuickBooks Online file already exists, keep the login nearby so I can look afterward with your permission.

My records are a mess. Is that going to be embarrassing?

No. Tangled files are the bulk of what I see, so a messy Georgetown file is nothing new. When I first open your records I am looking for what needs fixing, and nobody is asked to explain the mess. I begin from wherever your Georgetown business stands today and work until the numbers make sense.

Why are your prices not posted where a Georgetown owner can see them?

Because one flat number would overcharge the Georgetown sole proprietor with a single account and undercharge the busy crew with five. What a business needs depends on its volume and its accounts. So I look at your statements first, at no charge, and then quote for your business alone. The consult before that is free too.
