Your bookkeeper in Newmarket

For a while Newmarket was called Lampreyville, after the river that carries the name of John Lamprey, an early settler. The falls on that river powered seven textile mills for the Newmarket Manufacturing Company, which built its first one in the 1820s and closed in 1929. The mill buildings outlasted the company. They have been adapted for modern commercial and residential use, which means room for studios, shops and small offices. A business that fits in a corner of a mill usually has an owner doing the books at night. I can help a Newmarket owner keep doing the entries with less effort, or take the job over entirely.

The center of town sits where Routes 108 and 152 meet beside the Lamprey River, with Great Hill just to the south and Great Bay close by. The Lamprey and its tributary, the Piscassic River, drain the town. The Stone School Museum keeps the history, and the Stone Church is a music venue. Newfields was the parish of South Newmarket until it became a separate town, and some residents study or work at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Atkinson lies just under 20 miles to the southwest. That is too far to drop in, but the county is the same and the work is online.

Where I work

How local and remote work runs

If you want to stay hands-on with your Newmarket books, QuickBooks Online makes the file easy to share. You keep entering what you like, and I log in from Atkinson to check the file, fix what drifted and reconcile. A phone or video call handles questions. If software is more than you need, a Google Sheet does the job on a smaller scale.

Newmarket questions

Bookkeeping questions from Newmarket

Does your bookkeeping practice cover Newmarket, NH?

Yes. I am based in Atkinson, in the same county, and I take Newmarket businesses on as an online bookkeeper. A studio in one of the old mill buildings or a home business off Route 108 works with me the same way: shared access, statements sent online, and a call when needed.

I like entering my own transactions. Can I keep that part?

Yes, and many owners prefer it. My QuickBooks Online support service exists for that. The workflows and shortcuts I set up follow a Newmarket owner's own habits, questions get answered by me, and the file gets checked. Control stays with you, and the hours you spend on the books go down.

What do you need from me before work can begin?

Mostly three things. I ask a Newmarket owner for recent bank and card statements, the names of whatever payment apps bring money in, and a way into the QuickBooks Online file where there is one. That is enough to show me how things stand and what bringing the books current would involve.

How should a Newmarket owner prepare for the free consult?

No folder of paperwork is needed. It helps if a Newmarket owner knows which accounts and cards the money moves through, which apps customers pay with, and roughly how many months the books trail. Have the QuickBooks Online login handy too, in case you later give me permission to look.
